RE: Campground 4 night Stay Requirements

I'd find another CG.
A different situation, but we just went to the Gorge Amphitheater in WA State and they required us to pay for 2 night stay in their CG (5,000 campers/22,000 concert go-ers) for a Tom Petty Concert. Boy was I surprised when they refunded the 2nd night ($40) when we left the next morning after a 1 night stay.
We usually try to stay in State or National Forest or Park CG's where the rates are more manageable.

Driveby
I thought San Juan Islands also... but it must be the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. You're right the salmon have become elusive.

RE: Agitated Bison Bull in Yellowstone

The rangers were driving through them with a recorded "bleating" sound and ouside their vehicles clapping their hands trying to herd them with very little effect. Bison can be very contrary.

Agitated Bison Bull in Yellowstone

While caught in a large bison jam last week in the Hayden Valley we had a medium sized bison bull become very agitated beside our motorhome.
He would move straight toward the MH paw the ground and then walk side to side the length of the MH several times. Stop and repeat the actions several times, and each time coming closer and bleating? all the while. He was on a slightly raised slope (our seated eye level) and ended up about 12 feet from the MH with the low sun behind him. I wonder if he saw his shadow or reflection in the window? Has anyone else experienced this.
The herd was pretty active with young bulls butting heads, and older bulls placing their noses in female urine streams.
It was pretty exciting, and I had to tell my wife and a 15 year old young lady friend of ours to stop screaming, of course in the most respectful manner.

RE: Add house type dead bolt lock

My existing dead-bolt (Eze-set) lock just died, as I locked the MH after the last load from a week in Yellowstone, and I have been trying to install a similar dead-bolt (Kwik-set) which is close in function but not quite.
The bolt itself was a push-in type, not face plate mounted, so the bolt mechanism is not quite centered in the 2" hole... I think that I can remove the face-plate to set deeper and allow the mechanism to center. The throw of the dead-bolt projects about 1/2" longer than the orginal, so the thumb turn only turns about 1/4 turn. I can cut off the bolt or drill the frame to allow full thumb turn action. I am reluctant to drill the door (MH) frame, as it is probably a main vertical structual member. It works as installed, but requires a gorilla's strength.
I think that I will contemplate my options with a beer as I sit in the sun in Eastern WA this weekend, escaping the rain here.

RE: Check out the new RV FRIENDLY Shell stations!!!

Rockhillmanor:
Nice find, I look forward to more RV friendly fuel stops.
I'm just completing the design for a 15,000 SF testing, maintenance and office building for Shell that is designed, built and staffed with US workers. Steel and concrete are from the US, and have been fabricated here, as have most of the materials and equipment. They are good neighbors and supportive of the community. I encourage and support them.

RE: Yellowstone Camping early September

We were there last week, with signs at the entrance that said all campgrounds and rooms were full... but some campgrouds were actually not full. Even during that high season, Mammoth had sites available. You can check with the visitor centers and they can give you the time that each CG has filled up. One ranger said at West Yellowstone: Mammoth is the ugliest CG in America and there are usually sites there. I disagreed with her and did find a great site (#60) that actually had a tree late, and I checked in the afternoon.
You will not have a problem there.

RE: winterable class C brands

We started looking for a Bigfoot, and it would probably have been our choice, until the real cost(s)were known. All that good stuff costs money and weighs more that I was comfortable with on that frame.
It's interesting that all of our camping friends here in the PNW have Canadian RV's: 1 Bigfoot, 1 Triple E, 3 Northern Lite.

RE: What fire extinguisher do you have? Where do you keep it?

I have the standard issue 1A10BC by the entry door, and I have added another 1A10BC in the rear bedroom between the nightstand and mattress on my side of the bed.

RE: Parking ordinance violation

Sorry about the digression, but...
Be glad you don't live in Malibu, CA. A friend we were in Yellowstone with last week lives next door to a very wealthy home owner that has offered $1,000,000 to the town council to build a park several lots away rather than provide a view corridor on his own property. What's it take to buy a vote?

RE: Parking ordinance violation

Er... didn't this happen before November?
Most of these restrictions on private property use occur through homeowner's associations, but many public jurisdictions are beginning to propose restrictions that mainly influence parking on the public streets. Regulations that restrict parking in your driveway are more rare, but not unheard of, and this sounds like what you are up against.
Good luck with you battle.

RE: How many are still doing Mexico?

We leave on the 11th of next month to San Miguel de Allende (I wanted to be in the plaza in Mexico on Mexican Independece Day - Sept 16th - my birthday, where the revolution actually started... Viva Mexico "Viva Ron") and Guanajuato, and make at least 2 trips a year to La Manzanilla, with no hint of a problemo.
As tourists, we usually create our own problems, by our actions, attitude, or being in the wrong place at the wrong time doing the wrong thing. We've travelled extensively throughout the world and have only been truly afraid in our nation's capitol... Washington D.C.

RE: White King Water Softener & The Geo Method

I tried it, and won't do it again.
I also pre-mixed 1 cup of White King with water in 1 quart plastic bottles, and each bottle crystalized into a large solid block over time, which doesn't seem like a good idea in your holding tanks.
Someone here has said that Calgon and White King work in different ways, with White King solidifying around impurities, if I am remembering correctly.
I order Calgon on-line, and very much encourage its use.

RE: Most Beautiful State/Federal Road

As Islandman says above:
Highway 20 from Keystone Spit (Coupeville, WA) to Newport, WA.
It's been featured in Porsche commercials, although it's not quite the same in an RV.

RE: Uneven water temp

I have also installed an Oxygenics shower head (which I love) but I need to remember not to put my hand on the flow control valve when I use it as a hand-held shower. It causes the flow to vary as I twist my hand and the temperature and surge issue returns.
There are so many IQ tests out there.

RE: Uneven water temp

To clarify a bit, when the hot valve is fully open, and the cold is adjusted to achieve the desired temperature... life is good. If at least one valve is not fully open, then I get temperature and pressure fluctuations. Perhaps my system is not working correctly, but this seems to solve the issue.
When my wife shivers vocally, I tell her most respectfully to turn the hot water valve on completely.
